Major actor in the coffee and cocoa trading industry in Ivory Coast Africa Sourcing organizes on the 11th, 13th and 14th of May 2016, ‘’citizen’’ actions in Niablé, Gohitafla and Loboville with the aim to reward many Ivorian cooperatives. Ahead of the opening of this triple reward ceremony with significant donations to the farmers, we’ve meet Ange-Fabien Guéi, Africa Sourcing Purchasing Director in order to know more about this project.
Africa Sourcing organizes many donations ceremonies to Ivorian farmers ‘cooperatives. What is it about?
Since its establishment, our organization took sides with the Ivorian Government and the Coffee and Cocoa Council to participate to the human fulfillment and a thorough modernization of plantations, in other words to promote a sustainable and effective cocoa production>>.
The rewards events organized by Africa Sourcing in Niablé, Gohitafla and Loboville communities fall into its engagement to make farmers more performing and to promote quality and sustainable production.
This donation program is the fulfillment of Africa Sourcing promise made to the cocoa production sector in Ivory Coast.
From Niablé (Abengourou) to Loboville (Soubré) via Gohitafla (Zuénoula), Africa Sourcing will be making donations in each locality and, furthermore implementing social actions for the benefit of the concerned communities.
What are the motivations of such action?
Africa Sourcing is a citizen-oriented company which has already implemented many similar actions.
Let’s remind that we are an Ivorian company and we proudly claim it.
If it’s true that these activities aim to demonstrate to the Ivorian Government and the Coffee and Cocoa Council towards the promotion of a sustainable cocoa production and a fair trading, they also symbolize the social responsibility of our company.
Indeed, Africa Sourcing is convinced that the performance of the Ivorian economy and the quality of the Ivorian coffee and cocoa are inextricably linked to the attention given to the professionalization of farmers through cooperatives as well as to the support given to their communities in terms of education, health, their families’ welfare.
There are many localities in Ivory Coast where cocoa and coffee are cultivated. Why choosing these three (3) localities?
Each community is located in one of the three (3) major zones of cocoa production (East, Center, and West). And then, the three (3) cooperatives are members of our cocoa beans suppliers ‘network. They have proved that they operate efficiently, and above all, that they take care of caring of their members ‘dignity who themselves are dedicated to the cooperative development. Of course there are many others cooperatives left to be encouraged and the next tours will enable us to reach them.
With no intention of spoiling the effect of surprise, can we know what the farmers can expect as donation?
It is not solely farmers who will be beneficiary of these donations but also the less privileged of the communities where farmers are living. For us, indeed, the farmers should not be dissociated from their immediate environment. The donations will be comprising: agricultural equipment and many social actions to support the sector of education, health and gender promotion.
A last Word before letting you go
We would like to send our greetings to all the farmers of Ivory Coast, the brave and courageous contributors to the Ivorian economy performances. We would like also to tell the farmers of the different cooperatives at Niablé, Gohitafla and Logboville and any other cooperatives, of our network, that our doors are open to listen to them. There is still a lot left to be done in order to achieve our common goal, but for now, they can always count on the support of Africa Sourcing.
